Nuclear Testing(Synthesis Exam)


Several years ago, there were several nuclear tests in India and Pakistan. Two countries were blamed for that testing from many countries. That testing affected several problems; I think that the most important problem is radioactive contamination for humans, animals, soil, air, and the environments. If the United States resumed nuclear testing, I think it will cause many serious problems for in the United States, and also other countries will do the nuclear testing after America did.

There are some victims who injured with nuclear test. According to Hillary Gubler (2004), “St. George resident Bill Endsley, who grew up in Cedar City and endured hundreds of nuclear blasts, said the radiation from the testing gave him skin cancers and melanomas.” He is one of the victims from nuclear test that was done in the past. I think that there were many victims in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah from nuclear blasts. But in Salt Lake Tribune (2004), President Bush said that nuclear tests were safe. I can’t understand why he could say such words. The truth is totally different. Norman Soloman (2001) said, “People in affected areas suffered extraordinarily high rates of cancer and thyroid ills.” If the American government begins to do this, they must pay attention to radioactive contamination. If they can’t perfectly prevent this, they must not do it.

Probably, America can prevent radioactive contamination by progressed technologies. But there is a treaty of CTBT; this treaty has banned the ratifying countries from doing nuclear testing. If America breaks the treaty, many countries will strongly blame America. And according to Tony Batt (2002), a resumption of nuclear tests in America will cause many countries to start to do the nuclear testing. It is not good currently for the world. We must prevent this before being like this.

America has a large influence all around the world. That is why I think that America has to act carefully when doing nuclear testing.
